Carpenters Apprentice

Job Summary

Herr & Company is looking for Apprentice Carpenters to join our team. Your job will entail constructing and/or renovating homes and commercial buildings, including rough framing, stairways, setting doors and windows and installing cabinetry, siding and drywall according to specifications.

Your overall objective will be to work a part of the Herr & Co. team, as instructed by the job site superintendent, to achieve daily goals. Our hours are 7:30 am-4 pm Monday-Friday. You are expected to know and follow all company policies as outlined in the Herr & Co. Employee Handbook.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at the job site on time and ready to work
  • Follow instructions of the job site superintendent and lead carpenter.
  • Perform all work accurately and to Herr & Co. standards, including but not limited to demolition, framing, siding, flooring, installing cabinetry and hardware, and setting doors and windows
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and policies
  • Communicate with supervisor and/or project manager regarding job issues, requests for time off, and other job-related matters

Qualifications

  • Beginning carpenters and those with limited experience encouraged to apply. Herr & Company will train, as needed.
  • Willingness to learn new skills including installation methods and safe operation of carpentry tools.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve on the job when assigned new tasks.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from Herr & Co. job sites
  • Have required hand tools (including nail bag, hammer, square, utility knife, and tape measure). Herr & Co. will provide large and specialty tools (table saw, miter saw, compressor, nail guns, etc.)
  • Good physical condition and endurance to perform physical tasks typical in the construction industry, including but not limited to kneeling/bending for long periods, walking on uneven or narrow surfaces, climbing ladders/scaffolding, crawling and lifting at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Able to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions

Carpenter

Herr & Co. is looking for experienced carpenters to join our team. Carpenters are a key part of our company, as they are responsible for efficiently performing tasks on the job site and putting quality work in place. A Herr & Co. carpenter must be capable of working alone or in a team of 2-3 at any time.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at the job site on time, working Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (no weekends)
  • Follow company policies outlined in the Herr & Co. employee handbook
  • Follow directions of the job site superintendent
  • Perform work correctly and accurately to Herr & Co. standards; work includes, but is not limited to, demolition, framing, siding, flooring, installing cabinetry, setting doors and windows, and installing hardware
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and policies
  • Work as part of the Herr & Co. team to achieve daily goals
  • Communicate clearly with supervisor and project manager regarding job issues, requests for sick or vacation leave, and any other job-related matters

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of (5) years carpentry experience required; must include forming, framing, and finish carpentry
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License and reliable transportation to Herr & Co. job sites
  • Must have required hand tools (drill/driver, hammer, square, and tape measure); Herr & Co. will provide large and specialty tools (table saw, miter saw, compressor, nail guns, etc.)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform physical tasks normal to the construction industry, including but not limited to, kneeling/bending for long periods, walking on uneven or narrow surfaces, climbing ladders/scaffolding, crawling, and lifting at least 50lbs. on a regular basis
  • Must be able to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions
  • Must be comfortable working at heights
  • Must be capable of using all tools typical to a construction job site

Compensation

Superintendent

Herr & Co. is looking for a superintendent to join our team. A construction superintendent oversees every phase of a construction project, from the initial planning to its completion. At Herr & Co., the superintendent is on the job site daily and is responsible for coordinating all of the work carried-out by laborers and tradespeople. Superintendents also coordinate work schedules in a way that prevents conflicts in the workflow, thus ensuring that things get done in a proper and precise order and that the materials to do the job are in place when the task presents in the workflow. They may also self-perform work as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive a the job site on time, working Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (no weekends)
  • Follow company policies outlined in the Herr & Co. employee handbook
  • Follow instructions of and report to the project manager
  • Communicate effectively with both the project manager and customers
  • Perform work correctly and accurately to Herr & Co. standards; work includes, but is not limited to, demolition, framing, siding, flooring, installing cabinetry, setting doors and windows, and installing hardware
  • Schedule job site tasks and direct Herr & Co. labor on site
  • Schedule and coordinate with sub-contractors to complete projects in a timely manner
  • Measure and order materials from suppliers
  • Write and review change orders
  • Read and comprehend construction blueprints and scope of work
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and policies
  • Work as part of the Herr & Co. team to achieve daily goals
  • Communicate clearly with the project manager regarding job issues, requests for sick or vacation leave, and any other job-related matters

Job Requirements

  • Experience
    • Minimum of (5) years of carpentry experience
    • Minimum of (2) years of construction superintendent experience
