Jim Herr and his son Mike Herr co-own Herr & Co. and cherish the opportunity to work together while building both a legacy and the dreams of their clients here in the Valley. Both are Class-A building contractors, and collectively they have provided comprehensive services including contract administration, subcontractor coordination, and management of cost, time, quality and safety since 1988.
Herr & Co. is fortified with carpenters on-staff and a full office team to ensure the completion of your dream home or commercial project. Our staff is professional, punctual, and here to help you every step of the way.

Jim Herr

Jim Herr

Owner, President & Founder

Jim began his first paid position as a construction worker in 1975. He incorporated Herr & Co. in 1988 and has been building in Harrisonburg and the Shenandoah Valley ever since.

He enjoys the diversity of the projects Herr & Co. sees from year to year. "We have had the privilege of building everything from tiny houses of 350 square feet to custom homes that exceed 10,000 square feet and renovating historic buildings such as an 1800s Antebellum home, as well as modern dwellings with masonry, glass and steel. We have taken-on churches and various types of medical offices and seen those congregations‘ and professionals’ dreams come true. That being said, what I enjoy the most are the relationships we build along the way."

Jim is married to his wife Rhonda and is blessed with three sons, three daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren. He and his wife have a small farm, where they raise Tarentaise cattle and other livestock. In their free time, they enjoy traveling with their trail horses.

Mike Herr

Mike Herr

Owner, Vice President of Production

Mike loves unique building challenges and interesting design concepts. He enjoys honing-in on the fine details of each project and welcomes the opportunity to learn new things with each project. Much like his father, his favorite part of the building process is building relationships with new and familiar clients.

Mike and his wife Rachel have a nine year-old son named Cole, as well as a Brittany bird dog. He enjoys spending time with his beautiful family, bird hunting and fly fishing.

He likes being a part of each project from start to finish, but he mostly enjoys doing finish carpentry and seeing the smile on each client’s face.

Patrick lives with his girlfriend Nichole and their two year-old son Levi. He enjoys messing in the garden or his shop and canoeing on the river or hiking.

Where is his favorite local spot to dine or hang out? It’s a split pick between Hawksbill Brewery and Wisteria Winery.

Sam Carter

Estimator & Project Manager

Sam has been with Herr & Co. for three years. He came to the company with two years of carpentry experience and an excitement to learn more about the industry.

During his time with the company, Sam has further grown his love for the construction process. He enjoys the detailed planning of each project and getting to see each client’s dream come true.

Sam lives with his girlfriend Michaela and their "herd" of animals on their horse farm hidden against the Blue Ridge Mountains. He is a passionate whitewater kayaker, and he takes every opportunity he can to drive and hike in the mountains.

He most enjoys the process of taking something that people have dreamed about for a long time and helping it become a reality.

Jon Fountaine

Jon Fountaine

Carpenter/Superintendent

Jon has been with Herr & Co. for a little over four years. He came to the company with over thirteen years of construction experience and has taken every opportunity to continue growing that career.

He has fun meeting and working with the many different people involved in the building process. Jon also looks forward to breaking ground on each new project because it represents a fresh start and an opportunity to apply everything that was learned on the previous project. The completion of each project then brings a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that he values moving forward to the next.

Jon is part of a close-knit family that enjoys spending time together. He and his siblings (along with their children) spend many weekends at their camp in Bath County hunting, fishing and shooting targets.

Where is his favorite local spot to dine or hang out? He has explored a few local breweries like Stable Craft and Skipping Rock and has found beautiful scenery and great food/beer at most of them. He also likes Emicio’s restaurant in downtown Staunton.

Kyle Herr

Kyle Herr

Carpenter/Superintendent

Kyle has been a full-time carpenter for twelve years, but he feels like he has always been around construction because some of his earliest memories are of being on a job site.

Having shared much of his life with his family engrained in the industry, it is no surprise that continuing to do so is still one of his favorite parts of the construction process. He enjoys working with the Herr & Co. family, as well as helping client families see their dreams come true.

Kyle, his lovely wife Adrian and their three year-old son live in Harrisonburg and love it every day. He enjoys painting and drawing, as well as spending time with his family.

More recently, she enjoyed home educating her two boys and serving as a homeschool co-op leader.

Although not directly involved with the day-to-day building process, Lisa enjoys seeing the quality and variety of custom building projects with which Herr & Co. is engaged. She is also delighted to help contribute to the office management and financial success of the company.

Lisa and her husband Jim are the parents of two young adult boys: Nick and Evan.
